The most beautiful EV route through the Ardennes: what you need to know

The Ardennes are one of the most beautiful driving areas in Europe. Winding roads, spectacular differences in elevation and hardly any traffic. And with a modern electric car, you experience this in a way that is unique – silent, fast and fully immersed in nature.

At Tour Electric, we regularly drive these routes. In this article, we share everything you need to know about the most beautiful EV route through the Ardennes.

Why the Ardennes are perfect for EV drivers

The Ardennes are less than a two-hour drive from most major cities in the Netherlands and Belgium. The roads are well maintained, the signs are clear, and the nature is impressive. But most importantly for EV drivers: the charging infrastructure in the region has greatly improved in recent years.

Fast chargers from 150kW to 350kW are spread throughout the route. You can easily drive through the Ardennes in one day, provided you plan your stops well.

The route: from Valkenburg to Maastricht via the Ardennes

At Tour Electric, we always start in Valkenburg aan de Geul. Ample parking, easy charging at nearby superchargers, and a perfect location near the border with Belgium.

Our favourite stops along the way:

🏔️ Baraque Michel, the highest point in the Ardennes at 694 metres. The route crosses this spectacular high plateau, with views of the High Fens passing by as you drive.

🏰 Château de Reinhardstein, a medieval castle deep in the Ardennes near Wehimont. The route winds through this area; the landscape alone makes the detour worthwhile.

🍽️ Van der Valk Verviers, our regular lunch and charging stop. While you enjoy a leisurely lunch, your car quickly recharges at the fast chargers on site.

💧 Coo, the route drives right through this picturesque Ardennes village. Those who stop for a moment are treated to Belgium's largest waterfall, but the surroundings are impressive even from the car.

Charging on the way: no worries

A common question is whether you will have enough charging options in the Ardennes. The answer is a resounding yes, provided you plan smart.

Our tips:

• Depart with at least 90% charge level
• Charge during lunch at Van der Valk Verviers (fast chargers available)
• Use ABRP or your own navigation with charge planning
• Always bring your Type 2 cable as a backup
